The Local Multi-stakeholders Advisory Group (LMAG) of the Nigeria Internet Governance Forum, comprising of the Ministry of Communication Technology (MCT), National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA), Internet Society (ISOC) Nigeria, Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), Global Network for Cybersolution Ltd/Gte (GNC), Rita Talabi Foundation, Creative Technology for Development Initiative (CTDI) and DigitalSENSE Africa (DSA) in collaboration with other local stakeholders is organizing a two (2) day Nigeria Internet Governance Forum (2014).

The Forum is scheduled to hold at MUSON Center, Onikan Lagos. Time 9:00am, Date June 9th – 10th, 2014. The first day is devoted to the Youths as a pre-event.

Objective The objective of the NIGF 2014 is focused on engaging multi-stakeholder’s nature of the Forum to harness and aggregate productive ideas, best practices and experiences towards facilitating an all inclusive framework for internet governance in Nigeria that will actively stimulate economic growth.

Outcome of the Forum The Forum is expected to achieve the following outcomes.

  • Enable consensus building among stakeholders on framework for Internet governance in Nigeria.
  • Address the nation’s most critical and evolving issues on Internet governance
  • Advancing the nation’s position at the regional and global IGF Forum.


The NIGF 2014 will be taking into consideration harmonization of the inputs of local stakeholders into the Global IGF frameworks covering: Policies enabling Access; Content Creation, Dissemination and Use; Internet as an engine for growth & development; IGF & The Future of the Internet ecosystem; Enhancing Digital Trust; Internet and Human Right; Critical Internet Resources; and Emerging Issues The expected format of the Forum will be plenary and syndicate sessions detail of which will be in the program agenda. The following are the NIGF 2014 major topics in line with the Global IGF Agenda;

  • Building Democratic framework for internet governance in Nigeria
  • Internet Governance for local Content Growth, Education, and Healthcare delivery
  • Infusion of Multi-Stakeholder framework for Sustainable Internet Governance for Economic Development.
  • Internet Surveillance, Privacy Issues, & Engendering framework for a Trusted Community
  • Making internet access a fundamental human right in Nigeria
  • Connecting at Internet Exchange Point Nigeria for affordable internet in Nigeria and Security
  • Misuse of Social Media, Wearable applications, Digital Sovereignty, Cloud hosting & national security issues, Digital Plagiarism &Internet Piracy and Internet Research & Funding.
